STARTING AGAIN DOESN'T MEAN STARTING FROM NOTHING.

Life can change your direction without erasing everything you already carry with you.

There are moments in life when the phrase starting again feels painfully accurate.

A relationship ends. A career disappears. Your health changes. You move somewhere new. You experience loss. Your circumstances change in a way you didn't choose.

Suddenly the future you had pictured doesn't quite exist anymore.

It can feel like being sent back to the beginning.

But starting again and starting from nothing aren't the same thing.

YOU HAVEN'T GONE BACK TO ZERO.

Everything you have lived through comes with you.

The things you've learned. The mistakes you've made. The skills you picked up without really noticing. The way you make people laugh. The things you're good at. The things you now know you don't want.

Even the parts of your life that didn't work out can leave you knowing something you didn't know before.

We tend to recognise experience when it comes with something we can point to.

A qualification. A job title. A certificate. A promotion.

But human beings accumulate far more than credentials.

Maybe you've learnt how to advocate for yourself because you had to.

Maybe you've become good at making people feel comfortable.

Maybe you can manage a household on very little money, solve problems under pressure, care for somebody else, navigate complicated systems or keep going when things don't go according to plan.

Those things count too.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO RECREATE YOUR OLD LIFE.

Starting again can also come with pressure to get back somewhere.

Back on track. Back to work. Back to normal. Back to the person you were before.

But what if forward doesn't take you back?

You might want different things now.

Something you once thought mattered enormously might matter less. Something you previously overlooked might have become important.

That's not necessarily evidence that you've lost your way.

Sometimes changing direction is what happens when you've learnt more about yourself.

There will be things you need to rebuild. There may be things you need to learn from scratch.

But you aren't arriving empty-handed.

You are starting from everything you know now.

And that is very different from starting from nothing.
